KIM G. MAYHALL is a founding partner in the firm of Mayhall & Blaize, L.L.C., in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Kim has practiced exclusively in the field of oil and gas law since 1981 representing primarily operators and producers. Kim has extensive experience in title examination, division order work, acquisitions, litigation, contracts, State Mineral Board matters, and Louisiana Office of Conservation matters. Kim has represented numerous operators in drafting and negotiation of mineral leases, farmout agreements, joint operating agreements, participation agreements, seismic development agreements, road rights-of-way, pipeline rights-of-way, surface use agreements, and all manner of other agreements pertinent to the oil and gas business in the State of Louisiana.
Kim obtained a B.S. degree in 1975 from Louisiana State University and obtained his Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU in 1978. While attending LSU Law School, Kim served as an Associate Editor of the Louisiana Law Review. Kim graduated in the top 10 in his class with honors, both Phi Kappa Phi and Order of the Coif.
Following graduation, Kim served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Fred A. Blanche, Jr. on both the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court. In 1981, Kim entered the private practice and founded his own firm for the practice of oil and gas law. In 2004, Kim left the firm he had founded and operated for 23 years to become a partner with the large firm of Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson of Baton Rouge. In 2006, Kim left Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson to join with Charles Blaize to start the firm of Mayhall & Blaize, LLC.
In 1987, Kim was inducted into the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center Hall of Fame. Kim is a past Chairman of the Mineral Law Section of the Louisiana Bar Association and was a founding director of the Baton Rouge Association of Petroleum Landmen. Kim is also a member of the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Landmen and the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen. Kim is a member of the Baton Rouge and Louisiana State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all Federal District Courts in the State of Louisiana, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal and the United States Court of Federal Claims.
In 1990, Kim served on the Governor’s Oil Prevention and Contingency Task Force which was responsible for drafting the Louisiana Oil Spill Act of 1991. Kim is a frequent speaker before such groups as the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen (HAPL), the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Landmen (LAPL), the Baton Rouge Association of Petroleum Land (BRAPL), the Petroleum Landman’s Association of New Orleans (PLANO), the Gulf Coast Association of Petroleum Landmen, The American Association of Mineral Owners (AAMO), the National Association of Lease and Title Analysts (NALTA), and the National Association of Division Order Analysts (NADOA) on topics relating to Louisiana oil and gas law and Louisiana property law.
Kim is 57, and has been married for 29 years to the former Karen Ann Gendron of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They have two sons, Greg and George, both students in the LSU Medical School system.
